The difference with Etched Enamel lapel pins is that they are taken directly from your photo negative and imprinted on the pin′s metal surface. These pins enable you to take a picture of literally anything and turn that into a custom lapel pin.

After being transferred from the photo to the surface of a sheet of metal, the design is etched into the lapel pin base using an acid-reduction process that ensures the image will last. This process allows the design to ′set′ in the metal and to remain attractive for a much longer period of time. All acids and other impurities are carefully rinsed off afterward.

The next step is to fill the indentations in the metal with enamel colors. The colors are overlaid one at a time by hand using different-sized syringes. This step allows the colors to spread into the crevices of the lapel design. The metal is then fired for 12 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit to seal the colors and ensure their longevity. At this point the pins are cut from the sheet of metal according to your custom design.

Any uncolored, raised metal portions of the pin design are plated to a shiny gold/silver finish. You can choose to have an additional epoxy protective coating applied to your pins in order to protect the color and keep it from cracking over time, though this is optional.
